VMware Remote Console (VMRC) is a standalone application that provides direct, secure console access to virtual machines hosted on VMware platforms such as vSphere and ESXi. It lets administrators and users interact with a VM as if they were physically at its keyboard and monitor, making it ideal for OS installation, BIOS/UEFI configuration, troubleshooting, and recovery tasks when network access to the guest is unavailable.
Key capabilities include launching a dedicated console outside the browser, performing power operations, mounting local media (such as ISO images) to the VM, and redirecting local devices like USB peripherals and smart cards. VMRC also integrates with VMware management tools, allowing you to open consoles directly from inventory links, and supports standard clipboard and input features subject to security policies and guest configuration.
